GRAYDON GALLERY EXHIBITION SEPTEMBER 2009
‘MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS’ EXHIBITION

Palmer sees his show as “an installation” and in his 2009 exhibition, all the paintings will be hung on the same top horizontal line, to create a sense of unity between the wall and floor pieces.Distortion also transposes from the wall to the floor, where the illusion is the use of different materials – some expensive and some cheap.

Here Palmer mentions the influence of French artist, Marcel Duchamp, who excelled at challenging conventional thought about artistic processes.

His titles are descriptive and include Pin the Tail on the Donkey; Tell Him He’s Dreamin; Froggy Went a Courtin; Self Portrait – Still Life With Balls; and Ride a Cock Horse. Where Have All the Flowers Gone? is a tribute to Vincent Van Gogh. “Vincent’s last painting was of a cornfield with crows, possibly symbolising the end (or death). In my painting I symbolise the end of several relationships and I have ‘borrowed’ his blue and yellow palette and the linear movement of his brush marks.”

Palmer selected 10 of his latest oil paintings and has produced a series of five limited edition prints for each that are signed and numbered. These are included in the exhibition. The original paintings are also available for sale.
